For comparison, the seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate for Virginia in November was 4 percent while the national jobless rate was 4.8 percent.

The raw rate was at 6.3 percent in Las Vegas but just 5.7 percent in the Reno-Sparks reporting area.

The jobless rate in the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn metropolitan area fell by 1.1 percentage points during the month. El Centro, Calif., and Yuma, Ariz., had the highest unemployment rates at 20.4% and 20.0%, respectively.

The numbers in the report are not seasonally adjusted, meaning they do not take into account seasonal fluctuations in the labor market.

The November not seasonally adjusted statewide rate was 5.5 percent.

The Harrisburg area and Lancaster County added 13,600 jobs while Lebanon County shed 1,100 and York-Hanover was a flat, according to L&I.

Lancaster County added 2,700 jobs since November 2014 in trade, transportation and utilities.

That means the number of county residents without jobs has tumbled 53.6 percent over that almost six-year span. That was followed by construction which grew by 12.3 percent, adding 7,800 jobs. The last time it was below the 6 percent mark was in May 2008 when it was at 5.7 percent. Both posted unemployment rates of 3.7 percent.

Bristol: 4.4 percent in November, down from 4.5 percent in October.

Among surrounding counties Brooks and Tift had the lowest rate at 5.3 percent. That total, however, is a bit higher than the 4.7 percent jobless the county reported in October.
