Some Republicans who planned to vote for her may either stay home or vote for third or fourth candidates, especially in states that are not all that competitive. But what we already know from FBI Director James Comey is that his agency’s investigation found insufficient evidence to charge Clinton, though he did say her handling of classified information was “extremely careless” and that she falsely testified to the House Oversight Committee on Benghazi that there was no classified material in any of her email.
The State Department has released all Clinton’s calendars and about half her detailed daily schedules as secretary of state, after The Associated Press sued for access in federal court. No American could be unaware of the couple’s moral failings while voting to place them in the White House.
On his last day in office, January 20, 2001, Bill Clinton issued a presidential pardon to financier-crook and fugitive from justice Marc Rich, whose wife, Denise, had contributed $450,000 to the Clinton Library. Even then, there were dubious overseas connections and political contributions, though who was to blame for what was never clear.
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton campaigns with Vice President Joe Biden in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Monday, August 15, 2016.
Now Hillary’s scandals are fully hers. Yunus is a Bangladeshi economist who won the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize for championing “micro-loans” for the poor.
The tactic nearly worked. She rejected any attempts by the senators to prevent her from turning the State Department into a cash machine for the foundation. They point to exchanges in emails recovered by the conservative group Judicial Watch.
Hillary Clinton’s Achilles’ heel is her very Clinton-ness.
Even now, we likely have seen only a few of the incriminating documents.
If this isn’t pay-for-play access, then we don’t know what is.
The Associated Press published a devastating analysis last week. More than half of all the non-governmental parties who got meetings with Hillary during her time at State were major Clinton Foundation donors, and e-mails released by Judicial Watch demonstrated how the Clinton Foundation’s Doug Band operated in concert with Hillary crony Huma Abedin at State to make sure Foundation donors were taken care of by the government.
Of 154 people, 85 were donors.
I doubt this new tidbit about the foundation will change many voters’ minds. At least 40 donated more than $100,000 each, and 20 gave more than $1 million. That’s not shocking; she’s famous for doing that. But the frequency of the overlaps shows the intermingling of access and donations, and fuels perceptions that giving the foundation money was a price of admission for face time with Clinton.
Specifically, why – given that the notion of another run for the presidency wasn’t exactly off the table – did Clinton (and the staff that was supposed to be looking after her interests) not erect an impenetrable wall between foundation and State?
Fallon said the people Clinton met with would’ve had the meetings regardless of their donations. Those individuals appealed to the US secretary for special considerations involving worldwide banking issues, assistance for non-governmental charitable organizations and other global matters.
Regan Lachapelle, a spokeswoman for the health initiative, noted that it was a “separate legal entity from the Clinton Foundation with its own board which will determine its next steps”.
She may or may not be guilty of selling favors.
The mainstream media has a tough time “balancing” the coverage of a presidential campaign where one candidate is temperamentally suited for the Oval Office and the other candidate belongs in a middle school locker room, snapping wet towels.
Smart and determined, the Clintons were capable of genuine “public service”.
It’s pretty well accepted that appearances of a conflict of interest can be just as bad in public life as actual conflicts. It, in turn, would generate lucrative speaking engagements for Bill Clinton and later Hillary Clinton, employ cronies like Sid Blumenthal and pay for lavish travel. And so it will be if she ends up as president.
Almost two weeks later, Band followed up specifically about Rodin, emailing Abedin: “Can we get her at Biden’s table?”
As for me, I don’t want to hear from any of the far-left “open government” types who have made a living whining about money in politics with a particular emphasis on the Citizens United v. Angela Merkel is the long-serving chancellor of Germany.
