Anthony Martial has been struggling for confidence playing for Manchester United in recent weeks, according to Paul Merson.
Former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has stuck the knife in further for under-fire boss Louis van Gaal, claiming he was given a “one percent chance” of staying at Old Trafford.
The Mexican striker was loaned out to Real Madrid during the Dutchman’s first season at the Old Trafford helm.
Hernandez signed with Leverkusen on a three-year deal that was reported to be worth £7.3 million in August.
“I just felt that coming in and trying to take my mind off things would make it a little bit easier, and my family would want me to play”, he told the club’s website.
Hernandez’s goal output in league play represents the solution to Manchester United’s current goal-scoring woes that got away.
Hernandez spent last season on loan at Real Madrid as his United career petered away after a great start. However, he had begun to fall out of favour in 2013 when David Moyes was appointed manager after the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson. “As a player, I was desperate to wipe the smirk off United faces because they knew just how much quality they had”. “I had an incredible start, full of opportunities, although those opportunities dwindled over time and things took a turn for the worse”, Hernandez said.
“I’m so grateful to Ferguson. I think he is the best manager in history for how he managed the squad”, he said.
The depleted Red Devils failed to bounce back from their disappointing Champions League exit last week and the result leaves United without a win in their last five matches. He gave everyone a chance and understood that a player can not finish a season with only 15 games.
“Yes, it was an inexperienced line-up and they could end up becoming good young players”.
