The Kansas City Chiefs entered Saturday’s NFL Wild Card game having lost their last eight playoff games and had not won a playoff game since 1994. Belichick said on Sunday that will make it harder to find examples of things that work against them.
Texans fans were headed to the exits after Spencer Ware scampered for another touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter that capped another long drive and put the Chiefs out in front 27-0 before Santos closed out the scoring with his third field goal of the game.
Belichick says he’ll look back at the team’s last meeting, when the Chiefs won 41-14 in Week 4 of last season. “I owe it to those guys in the locker room and these coaches to do everything I can to be a better player for next time I step on the field”. While Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer was woefully inaccurate and ineffective, the Chiefs deserve credit for effectively limiting Hopkins, rookie cornerback Marcus Peters in particular.
Watt talked about the play, “Yeah we have had that play in there for weeks now and just never had the opportunity to run it. We ran it today and they did a great job stopping it”.
“We had talked about me going in there with Brian”. The game ended with Hoyer on the field, going down with the ship and being O’Brien’s chosen quarterback after his waffling at the start of the season.
Hoyer’s passer rating was 15.9 and his Total QBR was 1.7.
The Chiefs, who stormed into the playoffs on a 10-game winning streak, got the AFC Wild Card contest off to an explosive start when Knile Davis returned the opening kick-off 105 yards for a touchdown to send a jolt through the capacity crowd at Houston’s NRG Stadium. Kansas City receiver Jeremy Maclin strained his right knee on the same play and didn’t return.
Alex Smith, Chiefs, was 17 of 22 for 190 yards and a touchdown to Chris Conley, leading Kansas City to a 30-0 victory at Houston. He is such a leader for us on and off the field.
Despite Hoyer’s debacle and the even with the two turnovers, the Texans were still in the game.
Howard finished with 1 sack and Bailey with 2, one of which also led to a fumble, as he put left tackle Chris Clark on skates and drove him back into Hoyer’s arm.
Trailing 13-0, a 49-yard run by Alfred Blue got Houston to the Kansas City 13. Watt was dealing with a broken hand and injured groin but the Texans felt him commanding the offense was their best option in the red zone at first and goal.
The second half was not much better for the Texans though as they couldn’t get anything going on offense.
On second down, it was Poe’s pressure up the middle that made linebacker Josh Mauga’s end of the deal much easier.
NOTES: Clowney, the top overall pick in the 2014 draft, was inactive with a foot injury….
