Chris Gayle interview with Mel McLaughlin causes outrage over ‘sexist

January 04 05:44 2016

McLaughlin seemed rightfully bemused at the proposition, before tersely responding “I’m not blushing” as Gayle awkwardly laughed the comment off – there were audible snickers from the commentary booth as the interview was happening.

“I get to see your eyes for the first time, it’s nice”.

“Hopefully we can win this game and have a drink after”.

A clearly uncomfortable McLaughlin finished the interview with class before Ten’s Mark Howard classed Gayle’s remarks as inappropriate.

McLaughlin was keen to discuss another impressive innings by the West Indian Twenty20 maverick, but Gayle had other matters on his mind.

“There’s just no place in BBL – or, for that matter, anywhere in cricket – for that sort of behaviour”.

In response Gayle showed a national Big Bash audience why he’s such a famous womaniser.

“We’ll certainly be talking to him and the Renegades about it”, he said in a statement.

“This league is all about its appeal to kids, families and females”.

The broadcaster also deleted a tweet making light of the interview with the hashtag #smooth, before deleting it and tweeting a new message in support of McLaughlin.

The exchange overshadowed Gayle’s starring role in a critical win for the Gades’ finals chances.

Geelong Cats player Patrick Dangerfield meanwhile said Gayle’s comments were “pathetic” and commended the network for calling them out.
