CL: City On Brink Of Last Eight

February 25 04:14 2016

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini believes that his side have not yet guaranteed qualification despite an emphatic 3-1 away win against Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League round of sixteen, according to reports from the Mirror.

City captain Vincent Kompany was delighted with the performance and says his side have a “fairly good chance” of going through.

Manuel Pellegrini and his Manchester City side will be hoping to get their season back on track as they travel to Ukraine to to take on Dynamo Kiev in the Chaampions League (KO 19:45).

After a minor scare for City when Hart pushed an effort from Andriy Yarmolenko on to the crossbar, the visitors took the lead after 15 minutes.

“It was a Manchester City performance we would like to see more often until the end of the season”.

Another performance like today, and Manchester City can book themselves a place into the quarterfinals of the Champions League in March. The worst thing we can do is think that tonight it is finished just because we scored three goals.

“But in this case, having just 13 players, it was a key decision to rest the team that day”.

With City six points off the pace in the Premier League, Pellegrini dismissed the idea that their FA Cup exit ups the ante in other competitions.

Silva had a good shout for a penalty when he was taken down in the box but his appeals were waved away and City were about to sit back and take the pressure of a persistent Kiev side.

“I feel like I am contradicting myself a little after the FA Cup but I feel like every cup is a priority”.

“I think we pressed very well, we recovered the ball most of the time and we had at least three more chances in the first half when we pressed high”, the Chilean was quoted as saying by goal.com.

It was a decision that Pellegrini received a lot of criticism for but he said the victory over Kiev showed it was the right choice to rest players with so few options due to injuries.

“Last time we played here in 2011 it is not a good memory”.

“There is the Champions League, and after that we have the [Capital One Cup] final at Wembley [against Liverpool] on Sunday, and on Wednesday we return in the Premier League at Liverpool – it’s very easy because we are focusing on winning silverware this season”.
