Clark County School District Gets Terror Threat

December 24 23:58 2015

The new threat comes on the heels of Tuesday’s district-wide closure in Los Angeles, which was sparked by an email threatening a large-scale attack.

School officials in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Houston and Dallas received threats late Wednesday similar to those targeting the school districts in New York City and Los Angeles earlier this week.

Las Vegas school officials say they received a threat similar to ones reported by school districts around the country.

Early Thursday morning, police said separate threats were made to Plainfield High School on social media.

In Illinois, Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 also was alerted about the same threat.

Washoe County School District Spokesperson, Victoria Campbell says among other things the district works together with local, regional, state and federal law enforcement to keep students safe.

Police said a school resource officer and school staff members apprehended the boy and searched his belongings and locker.

Officials closed all Los Angeles Unified School District campuses Tuesday morning after receiving a “credible threat” of violence involving backpacks and packages left at campuses. “The decision to close the schools is not mine to make, but is mine to support”, Garcetti said. The district remained opened throughout the day. Officials describe the first as a verbal threat that a classmate overheard and the second as a comment the senior posted on Facebook.

Meanwhile, an all-clear was given after East Orange Campus High School in New Jersey was evacuated on Thursday following a phoned-in bomb threat.

The Franklin Community Schools south of Indianapolis issued a statement saying it canceled Friday classes after receiving a “serious” threat and consulting with police.

Those threats come one day after a 15-year-old Goshen High School student was arrested for allegedly making threats to shoot multiple people at the school, according to the Goshen Police Department.

“We had investigators in working through the night last night just combing our own local information, anything we might have locally that’s associated with information that we got from JTTF”, Hansberry said. “At this time we do not believe the threat is credible, but as a precautionary measure we have increased police presence around schools and transit corridors to and from schools we will continue to monitor the situation, if you see something suspicious please call 911″.

Threats against several students were posted on an alias Facebook account Wednesday night, along with the threat of an attack against the school.
