On Jan. 21, thousands of people will be marching in Washington, D.C.to protest Trump’s inauguration. Among them will be more than 100 women and men from San Antonio. Hundreds of other communities are holding simultaneous events, including some in Canada.

I was pleased to see the January 15 news article “Women from the Triangle head to March on Washington”.

Kari Mar and her stepdaughter Evyn say there was never much doubt about making the trip.

Trump who has warned against demonstrations in the United States in response to his presidency will be inaugurated on Friday (20 January) in Washington DC.

However, in the election result, to the shock of some analysts, 42 per cent of women overall voted for Trump with him winning 53 per cent of white women. As the movement grew, they have tried to ensure that there is a better representation of backgrounds helping to organise the march, so that all voices are heard. “I think it comes out of a place of concern and unhappiness at what values our country has made a decision to put forth at this time, but I think the march itself is meant to be a place of unity and safety and protection”.

There is an expectation that the march will be massive, but peaceful. “I think that there will be a fairly nice turnout from the college”.

The video says there will be speakers and a short rally with performances, though an organizer said on Monday that she could not name any performers at this point. “We are about feeling things and feeling things very deeply”.

“To make sure you are passionate and involved is at the center of what it is to be American, and I encourage everyone to take part in that”, Bennett said.

“It’s a pivotal time“, Angus added.

“I know they’re only doing this because they can’t get nobody else and they want me to perform for the inauguration”, he wrote.

His appointment of Senator Jeff Sessions to become Attorney General has raised concern from many who believe Trump could weaken voting rights for minorities and cut back criminal justice reforms.

Angus said Trump’s victory and his attitudes reflect a level of broad intolerance that is frightening.

“This march was triggered by widespread apprehension at the threat to human rights anticipated in the wake of recent political events”, Beth Garner, one of the march’s organisers, told The Independent.

The Women’s March on Washington began as a grassroots effort the day after the 2016 presidential election, when a grandmother in Hawaii proposed to forty of her friends to march in Washington.

Khan said she hoped the event would allow people to heal divisions and unite over common goals.
