Three smaller, fiercely independent states could tip from Clinton’s column to Trump’s if she loses numerous Republican-leaning voters who just aren’t comfortable with Trump – not to the GOP nominee, but to Libertarian Gary Johnson.

The campaign said it would bring Clinton and Obama together, along with their spouses, for a final pre-election rally in Philadelphia on Monday evening.

“I do think that there is a norm that when there are investigations, we don’t operate on innuendo and we don’t operate on incomplete information and we don’t operate on leaks”, Obama said. The latter is a reliably Republican state where Democrats see an opening against Trump given his unpopularity with Hispanics.

While she had two appearances Wednesday in Republican-leaning Arizona, Clinton planned to spend part of Friday in Detroit.

Nevertheless, some polls showed Mrs Clinton recovering slightly from her slide in the past week. Weak minority support could complicate her path in other states, too, including North Carolina, Pennsylvania and MI.

Mr Obama didn’t stop there, attacking Mr Trump’s connection with working class voters.

In Pennsylvania, Quinnipiac gave Clinton a 4-point edge, while CNN/ORC had her up 5.

Speaking at a rally in Florida, Mr Obama said: “All of the progress we have made goes out of the window if we do not win this election”.

“If you add up all of the people and all the groups of people he has insulted and demeaned it makes way more than half of America”, Clinton added.

Clinton’s campaign employs more than 800 people, many of whom are fanned out across the country encouraging people to vote for her.

Mrs Clinton’s support among African-Americans, women, whites holding a college degree, and younger voters remains strong.

An average of polls compiled by the RealClearPolitics website also showed her lead at 1.7 percentage points, well down from the solid advantage she had until late last month.

Clinton’s drop in support comes in the wake of news that the FBI is investigating additional evidence related to her use of a private email server as secretary of state – an investigation which the agency had closed in July.

Pennsylvania does not offer early voting, leaving Election Day turnout as key.

Clinton, unlike Trump, can also afford to lose here.

Non-Trump Republican registered voters are somewhat more engaged than Sanders backers with 88 percent absolutely certain to vote and 60 percent following the election “very closely” (vs. 51 percent for Sanders Democrats). But if the conspiracy theories are true and James Comey was trying to disrupt Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign – or at least keep the election close enough for Republicans to keep the Senate – it looks like he may have succeeded.

No, Democrats, Donald Trump is not pals with Vladimir Putin
