A 20 percentage-point lead among women and a 45-point lead among non-white voters lift Democrat Hillary Clinton to a 45 – 40 percent likely voter lead over Republican Donald Trump, with 6 percent for Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson and 3 percent for Green Party candidate Jill Stein, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released today.
The poll also shows Clinton has a significant lead among black voters, with 98 percent indicating they plan on voting for her in a two-party vote. Tennessee’s results contradict the current post-debate polling nationwide, as Clinton is leading by an average of nearly four points. They are now just as likely as Trump’s voters to say they are enthusiastic about their party’s nominee. Last week, they favored Trump by 12 points. Both candidates are disliked by a majority of likely voters, according to the poll, and an increasing number of women have expressed an “unfavourable” view of both candidates this week. Trump didn’t fare much better, with 61 percent saying he was not honest and trustworthy and 36 percent saying he was.
Only once since the convention has Trump been ahead by more than four points and not since late August has he cracked 42 percent.
In most quarters, political pundits and talking heads privately toyed with the notion that things were pretty air tight and this might be a cakewalk for Hillary Clinton. He and his advisors have since suggested he will raise Bill Clinton’s affairs as an issue in the second debate.

In a head-to-head match-up, Clinton has half of the female vote while Trump wins 44%. In the four-way race, women back Clinton 53 – 33 percent as men back Trump 49 – 37 percent.

That is in part the result of changes Mr. Obama pushed through Congress, which the White House says increased average tax rates on the top 0.1% of households by almost seven percentage points.
