Clinton says Sanders making promises that ‘cannot be kept’

Several candidates embraced the chaos as they felt out the best strategies to survive SC and advance into a grueling March primary schedule, when 58 percent of the party’s delegate total will be at stake.

“Let’s not insult the intelligence of the American people”, said Sanders. “I do not expect from someone running for the Democratic nomination to succeed President Obama”, Clinton charged during the Democratic presidential debate. People aren’t dumb. Why in God’s name does Wall Street make huge campaign contributions?

Throughout the debate, Mr. Sanders, who is seeking to appeal to racially diverse voters in Nevada and SC, demonstrated little capacity to broaden his political message in compelling new directions beyond overhauling the economy, campaign finance and health care. I disagree. I think rather the party and those who support the leadership of the party are very out of tune with the American public and the man they see as most electable often times is not. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt, makes a point during a Democratic presidential primary debate at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Thursday.

“In her book and in this last debate, she talked about getting the approval or the support or the mentoring of Henry Kissinger“, Sanders said.

Clinton concurred on a need to address a criminal justice system, but she cast her proposals for fighting racial inequality as broader than his.

The largest newspaper in Florida is throwing its support behind Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination, calling rival Bernie Sanders’s proposals “unrealistic” and “expensive fantasies”.

Both candidates promised large-scale criminal justice reform and comprehensive immigration reform, including a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants now living and working in the United States.

Mrs Clinton, who has eagerly embracedMr Obama’s legacy, said Mr Sanders had called Mr Obama weak and a disappointment, and “that goes further than saying we have our disagreements”.

“What our campaign is indicating is that the American people are exhausted of establishment politics”, Sanders said.

Both candidates were restrained through much of their head-to-head contest – a contrast to their campaigns’ increasingly heated rhetoric. Clinton responded that Sanders has failed to answer questions about whom he would have advise him on foreign policy.

“We’re not going to dismantle anything”, he insisted, explaining that middle-class families would pay $500 more in taxes while receiving 10 times that amount in the reduction of health care costs.

So in the weeks ahead, many will look for Obama to continue to say nice things about both candidates, but quietly root a bit harder for Clinton.

Clinton accused Sanders of advocating a plan to dismantle it in favor of expanding Medicare to everyone. Sanders did come across as more well-versed on foreign policy than in debates past – a low bar – he struggled to score clean hits on Clinton during the first hour of the debate, which focused exclusively on domestic policy, which should have been his strong suit.
