Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews both score attractive goals in first All-Star Game

The winners of the games will play another 20-minute 3-on-3 game to determine the victor.

Columbus’ Cam Atkinson scored the tying goal for the Metropolitans in the four-team, 3-on-3 divisional tournament format introduced to the midseason classic last season.

In the semifinals, Simmonds scored two goals to help the Metro advance to the final by defeating the Atlantic Division, 10-6.

Each team has plenty to play for, with a $1 million prize up for grabs for the winning team.

Simmonds won the truck awarded to the game’s MVP after he put the Metropolitans ahead with a clever goal. Sidney Crosby scored his first All Star goal in only his second All-Star appearance, and National Hockey League scoring leader Connor McDavid – touted as the next Crosby even as Crosby continues to shine – scored in his All Star debut.

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid took the top spot in the NHL’s Fastest Skater event, during Saturday night’s skills competition in Los Angeles.

Asked what players he has been in awe of in previous games, Seguin said with a smile, “Everyone”.

Crosby finally succeeded in setting up Ovechkin for a tap-in from the right side of the crease with one second left in the second 10-minute half.

The Philadelphia Flyers forward finished off a two-on-none, taking a ideal feed from Taylor Hall and lifting the puck up over the outstretched arm of Pacific Division goaltender Mike Smith to break a 3-3 tie.

It was Simmonds’ third goal of the tournament, which netted him MVP honors. McDavid scored one of the prettiest goals of Sunday’s game for the Pacific team, getting a breakaway and beating Sergei Bobrovsky with a nimble stop and a shot while falling down.

The host Kings have two representatives on the Pacific Division – defenseman Drew Doughty and forward Jeff Carter. In addition to taking photos with likes of Wayne Gretzky, the NHL’s all-time leading scorer and also their coach on the Metropolitan Division team, they posed for one together with Ovechkin’s father, Misha, who remarked that the picture would be front page news back in Russian Federation. He fired the one-time feed past Arizona’s Mike Smith on precisely the back-door style play the two had discussed before the game. Martin Jones stopped seven of nine in the second. Minnesota coach Bruce Boudreau didn’t love the laid-back vibe on his Central team, which had four Chicago Blackhawks. Not a lot of defense being played.

The fist-bump and faceoff had the same effect on New York Islanders forward John Tavares of the Metropolitan squad. Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Taylor Hall of the New Jersey Devils and Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals all had a goal and an assist. Seth Jones 98.1 miles per hour easily beat that.

Nikita Kucherov (Tampa Bay Lightning) had two goals and two assists and Vincent Trocheck (Florida Panthers) added a goal and three assists for the Atlantic. As Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask said, the expectation from Finnish media was that Laine would be the second coming of Teemu Selanne.

LOS ANGELES-Through it all – the accolades from Wayne Gretzky, the media attention, the friendly competition from his National Hockey League rivals – Auston Matthews really only has one job this weekend.
