Cook County Clerk Orr Encourages Early Voting

The early voting period will run until November 5, then Election Day itself is November 8.

Ada County elections officials, for example, are expecting about 75 percent of eligible voters in the county – about 195,000 people – to vote in this election.

So, only 772 more voters by 5 p.m. Friday would tie 2012’s first-week record. As a result of the Court of Appeals decision, election day voter registration can resume. A voter may pick up a vote-by-mail ballot from the office of their Supervisor of Elections through the day before the election or, if an emergency exists, on the day of the election.

Early voting will be held at the Madison County Agricultural Complex Auditorium, at 311 North Parkway in Jackson.

“We’ve just expanded the scope of who can use early voting”, said Simon, a Democrat who took office in 2015. The box is located on 18th Avenue between Sunset and Juniper and opened on Monday when ballots were mailed out. On Tuesday, it was 815 downtown and 703 at Central. If you are unable to cast your ballot in person, you have option to vote via an absentee ballot.

“I have a smile on my face because I’m getting this done, but I would have stood in the line”, said Timothy Weis, who voted Wednesday.

Despite the high turnout, things have been flowing smoothly.

While there was a wait, voters said it was worth it. And at the Central Community Center, there was never a wait.

For same-day registration, bring a government-issued photo ID to an early voting site, a student ID, or another official or business document with your current name and address on it to an early voting site.

Open weekdays 8:30 a.m. -6 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. -1 p.m.

Saturday, October 29 – 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Another way to think of this is as “excused early voting”.

Cowetans who are registered to vote can vote early at either location. “This is where the decisions are made and if we don’t vote then we don’t have a say, so we don’t have any reason to complain”, she declared.

Voters can send their completed ballots through the mail in an envelope provided along with the ballot.

They said any occurrences of voters attempting to vote twice, or any signature discrepancies that haven’t been cleared up by the voter in question, are turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for investigation.

Hall and Garnett emphasized that a voter can only sign his or her own ballot envelope.
