Orlando’s biggest draw was the Brazilian national team, but with the match-up coming against a team from Pot 3, which included the CONCACAF teams, the opponent was not going to be one of the powerhouse teams from South America.

After drawing Germany, Portugal and Ghana in the 2014 World Cup, the Americans were given a hand featuring Colombia, Costa Rica and Paraguay for this summer’s Copa America Centenario. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann said ahead of the draw that he had hoped to avoid Colombia and Chile, but instead the No. 32 Americans got a hard draw with Costa Rica and Paraguay and the Colombians.

The U.S. played Paraguay in the 2007 Copa America and lost 3-1 and lost to the them in a 2011 friendly 1-0. The United States ended up with the teams with the highest Federation Internationale de Football Association rankings in each of the other three pots, and Seattle was left without a marquee matchup in either group stage game and is unlikely to get one of the tournament’s most attractive teams in the quarterfinal match it hosts on June 16.

Defending Copa champion Chile, which had an impressive World Cup two years ago, is looking to remain among the Southern Hemisphere’s best teams. It has participated in past Copas as a guest from the North America, Central America and the Caribbean region (CONCACAF).

June 11: US vs. Paraguay.

The final of the prestigious tournament will be held on June 26 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. If the Americans finish second, they would play the Group B victor at East Rutherford.

This summer’s tournament will mark the 100th anniversary of the Copa America, which predates the World Cup and has traditionally served as the South American championship. The corruption probe led FIFA President Sepp Blatter to announce his resignation last spring, just days after he was elected to a fifth term.
