Senator Sessions has served the public for nearly the entirety of his legal career, according to the questionnaire he submitted to the Judiciary Committee. “Sessions may smile, how friendly he may be”, Rep. Lewis said.
The clash was history making. New Jersey Senator Cory Booker testified against Sessions at the hearing on Wednesday, breaking a tradition of sitting Senators not testifying against colleagues. “When I asked him about appointing a special counsel to investigate criminal wrongdoing by Deutsch Bank, owed more than $3 million by Donald Trump, he equivocated”.
Sessions’s statements to the Senate in 1986 about his supervisory role in the case are more modest than what he and his supporters say today, and while his testimony at the time generally did not directly contradict Figures’s account, Sessions insisted that he did not urge Figures to drop the case.
