Arkansas will now gear up for its third consecutive game and fifth this season against a ranked opponent when it heads to No. 21 Auburn on Saturday for its first true SEC road game of the year.
It will be Auburn’s eighth game of the season, and the seventh at night.
Ole Miss had one more drive following Arkansas’ go-ahead score, but Kelly fumbled on a fourth-and-16 scramble that came up short. With pressure in his face, Kelly rolled out and made a decision to run. Allen also was hurried seven times by the Ole Miss defense, but it was the running backs that shined in pass protection, picking up key blocks that allowed Allen to keep plays alive. “We did some of the time, but you can’t play in spurts against a quality offense like Arkansas“. The 6-foot-1, 214-pounder junior was also tossed after a helmet-to-helmet hit on Texas A&M’s Speedy Noil in Week 4. “Credit them for keeping us from executing at the level we needed to to win the football game”.
“It’s disappointing. We have to learn, as coaches and players, to get better each week because if you don’t do that in this league, you will end up with a lot of losses on your scorecard”.
The defense will have to take on the large offensive line of Arkansas, but should be up to the task.
Thrilling a homecoming crowd of 73,786 Saturday night at Reynolds Razorback Stadium, plus a national ESPN TV audience, the 22nd-ranked Razorbacks defeated the 12th-ranked, Hugh Freeze-coached Rebels for the third consecutive year, 34-30. In rushing, Eugene Brazley ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns in 13 carries while Akeem Judd added 108 yards in 15 attempts. “That’s what happened today and things opened up like they haven’t all season”.
Arkansas was able to take a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter after using a good mixture of the run and passing game before finishing it with a 53-yard strike from Allen to Reed. We obviously gave up a few plays, but they’re good. Austin Allen threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns in 13-for-18 passes.
Without Allen getting pummeled on every play, the Arkansas offense looked both explosive and efficient.
The Rebels are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games overall and are a ideal 4-0 against the number in their last four conference games.
Auburn is the challenge this week with a bruising running game featuring Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson, who have combined for more than 1,000 yards this season. Running back Kerryon Johnson suffered a slight injury in the win against Mississippi State, but should be back.
Bret Bielema did his best to remind anyone who was listening throughout the week that Arkansas’ only losses this season were to No. 1 Alabama and No. 6 Texas A&M.
Arkansas’ defense forced a three-and-out and got the Razorbacks an assumed great field position at the Ole Miss 38. “Losing hurts and all of those guys are hurting right now, we just have to come back and get on the same page and just build some momentum on the offensive side of the ball”.
