Xavier is injured but did survive the bush crash that killed 15 including Parker Tobin.

“Jaxon made our team as an 18 year old from St. Albert”, said Jones.

Four other GoFundMe campaigns for families of the injured and deceased Broncos players and personnel have since been created.

“He keeps wanting to try and move his legs, of course, because he wants to go back skating”, Tom said. “I heard he was an incredible teammate”.

Humboldt Mayor Rob Muench, wearing a green and yellow team Broncos jersey, hugged people Saturday morning as they came to the Elger Petersen Arena to comfort each other.

“I, like everyone else, am feeling the emptiness, despair and helplessness that all of us feel”, said Nitehawks coach Terry Jones. Life is a gift, a gift we ALL take for granted.

“And then the frickin’ devastation I feel for the Tobin family”.

However, in his Sportsnet Radio interview, MacLean said in addition to lacerations all over his body, the player who turned out to be Labelle had broken vertebrae, ribs and hip, as well as a lacerated liver. It is dirty but we stay strong even if life is not flawless. It has raised more than $21.5 million U.S. in the three months it’s been in place.

The news of the accident resonated with players, parents and coaches in Prince Rupert because the city’s teams spend a significant amount of time on the road during the season travelling to games and tournaments.

“With people being on a hockey team, I think dynamics of losing a fellow brother, or a fellow player, it hits home“, Zywina said.

“It’s certainly a great part of playing junior hockey in a community like Powell River”.

Shawnigan Lake resident Miranda Froese wanted the town of Humboldt and the Broncos know that her community stands behind them.

“Our hockey community is a tight-knit family”. By mid-day Sunday, that goal was surpassed, seeing donations from more that 60,000 donors in nearly 60 different countries.

The money, $7.3 million ($5.8 million US) and counting, comes from 65 countries, according to GoFundMe’s PR agency in Canada, North Strategic.

“In Humboldt, every minor hockey team is the Humboldt Broncos“, said Rush, who lives in Sylvan Lake.

The Broncos were a close-knit team who dyed their hair blond for the playoffs.

“We are all joined in the need to help the team, the many families impacted and the community as they deal with such a awful loss”, said Mel Duvall, a spokesperson for Calgary-based Husky Energy Inc., which donated $15,000 to the fund. “Saskatchewan is home to about 1,000 of our employees and this has affected everyone at Husky deeply”.

On Monday, Drew Wilby, a spokesman for the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice, said the Tobins have been understanding under the circumstances, but he acknowledged, “That was a tough phone call”. I’ve talked to people all weekend who are crying about this and are very upset. “This impacts us so deeply. I’ve had tears well up myself”.
