The CW’s new superhero series Legends of Tomorrow may be in a world all its own, but it’s not quite leaving its parent shows behind.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Phil Klemmer revealed that there’s “100 percent chance” that older and/or younger versions of Oliver and Barry will pop up in the much anticipated time-travel series.
Legends of Tomorrow premieres Thursday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. on the CW.
Brandon Routh plays the eager hero, Ray Palmer/The Atom. “It is fun”, he said.
Now that there are three inter-connected shows from the DC universe on The CW, one critic wonders if characters will move fluidly between the three.
Special effects figure big into time-traveling Legends, and Klemmer said the experience of having previously produced Flash and Arrow helped. “We believe there’s a place on our schedule for a show like this…you can’t beat quality like this”. “There is no comic book called “Legends of Tomorrow“, the show and the title came from us”.
Neither Pedowitz or Aline Brosh McKenna, executive producer of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”, said they believed the show needed to be retooled in order to attract more viewers.
Rip has a sense of humor, despite his dark and tragic background. He hasn’t chosen them because he likes them. He said when they encounter timeline issues in the process, they ask, “Is this like ‘Back to the Future?’ Is it like ’12 Monkeys?'”
He continued, “As [executive producer] Andrew [Kreisberg] always says, as far as we know, time travel is not real”.
“We make rules that make good drama”, a producer noted. I think right out of the gate you really feel that for these people that they all feel like these tragic lost souls who have all lost something and have a moment and an opportunity for redemption through this travel to stop Vandal.
Berlanti added, “The only reason to create this show is to create something we really want to watch”. “Perfect is boring”, says the panel.
To prevent this probability, “The shows 1): have to be great and 2): have to be diverse and explore something new”. “[The CW chief Mark Pedowitz] is supportive”. “We’re starting to see a more realized version of her”, she said.
The show’s CG demands are huge. And when you see the episodes that I have screened, you’ll agree that looks like a fully rendered feature film. “It reminds me a lot of some of the family shows I’ve done”, going on that the family was of the “dysfunctional” variety. “It will be the 10th anniversary of The CW, which I’m proud to say has defied a lot of odds”, he said. Ciara Renée talks about their volatile sexual tension, “Even though they’re always butting heads, they’re always drawn together”. “The stakes, I don’t know how they could be higher for him… but this time the stakes are that they can finally be together”.
