Perry told Graham Norton that it isn’t going to be “the reunion everyone is hoping for,” which fans have been looking forward to ever since the series finale. However, their nostalgic dreams were crushed when the “reunion” was clarified to simply be a short part in a broadcast tribute to director James Burrows – and without Matthew Perry, who was never scheduled to be at the special.
Schwimmer has “no idea” what will happen when he shows up for the show.
“I think it’s lovely [he show is still popular]. Frasier, Cheers, Will and Grace… it goes on”, he said. “There are so many people who love him and whose careers were defined by him”.
However, while the majority of the reports have been shot down, network NBC have confirmed the original castmates will all be appearing in a show honouring director James Burrows, which will air on February 21. Burrows directed 15 episodes of the iconic sitcom, including “The One Where Ross and Rachel Take a Break”.
However, it soon became apparent that Matthew Perry would not be in attendance, and it all started to unravel after that, along with our hopes and dreams.
“I mean, in no way is it a Friends reunion when one member is out of the country. The other five [Friends] are going to be on this special and I am going to introduce them from London”.
The actor also said the moments will still be special despite Perry’s absence.
He added: “Sure I’m sad, but I’m happy for him, he’s doing a play in London and it’s thrilling”. This is the time in my life that I’m looking toward.
