House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) called Donald Trump’s Monday night debate performance “spirited” today and said the candidates “met their expectations” in the face-off.

Mr Trump told Fox News he thought the debate went well, but complained that moderator Lester Holt failed to press Clinton on “her scandals”, including the controversies over her use of a private email server as secretary of state and her handling of the attack in 2012 on the USA consulate in Benghazi.

Thrilled by her performance during last night’s debate, Clinton said she got to articulate her policies on key issues.

“But during the debate, that understated approach sometimes led to the candidates, especially Trump, rolling over his questions, with Holt at one point admitting that they were far behind schedule”, the article continued. In the last couple of weeks you acknowledged what most Americans have accepted for years, the president was born in the United States. He also claimed that she changed her opinion on the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact because he opposed it, a charge that she rejected.

“I think Chelsea is a fine young lady”, he said.

Trump described the debate as “an interesting evening” and said more than 80 million people watched it. Americans have never seen a candidate like Donald Trump take the stage for a general election presidential debate as the nominee of one of the major parties.

Social media was humming, too, with Nielsen saying there were some 17.1 million Twitter interactions involving 2.7 million people on Monday. When Bash asked him about it, he denied implying he hadn’t paying taxes, adding “If they said I didn’t, it doesn’t matter”. After talking around the question for the duration of his time, Trump, pressed one more time by Holt, said he would. And, as Clinton said, there are two more to go.

“I thought it was a very strong debate”. She mentioned that she was joined at the debate by Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team, who she termed “a real billionaire”.

Democrats are also sure to keep focusing on Trump’s false assertions about President Barack Obama’s birthplace, with the president scheduled to make a Wednesday appearance on Steve Harvey’s TV show.
