Fisher was 60 years old.
Debbie Reynolds, the film star mother of the late Carrie Fisher, has died aged 84, her son has said.
Carrie Fisher had died a little more than a day before her mother, three days after Fisher suffered what was described as a massive heart attack while on a flight from London to Los Angeles. The 84-year-old was reported to have been hospitalized earlier in the day.
“She’s now with Carrie and we’re all heartbroken”, Todd Fisher said. The stress of his sister’s death “was too much” for Reynolds, Fisher said. A documentary about their lives together, “Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds“, will air in 2017 on HBO.
Social media feeds exploded with disbelief and sadness in reaction to first reports of Reynolds’ hospitalization, and then – just hours later – of her death.
A talented singer and actress, Reynolds appeared in many movies and stage productions spanning decades.
She has been nominated for an Academy Award, an Emmy and a Golden Globe.
Audiences can watch the Fox Classic tribute to Debbie Reynolds beginning at 7.30pm AEDT on Channel 113 on New Year’s Eve. She is survived by Todd Fisher and granddaughter Billie Lourd, an actress.
One would never guess it from the joyous movie clip, but Reynolds struggled to film the Good Morning sequence, as she had no dance training before playing Kathy Selden at age 19. “She wanted to be with Carrie“, Todd told Variety.
Fisher often spoke of the ups and downs in her relationship with her mother and growing up in the shadow of famous parents. She later married and divorced businessman Harry Karl and real estate developer Richard Hamlett.
Reynolds responded to her daughter’s untimely death via Facebook Tuesday. “She was busy, she was active; it just came as a complete shock to everyone”. “Millions fell in love with her as the indomitable Princess Leia; she will always have a special place in the hearts of Star Wars fans as well as all of us who were lucky enough to know her personally”.
-“As you train and as you develop your talents, you do get better, hopefully, or you get out of the business”. “I send all of my love”, tweeted comedian and TV host Ellen DeGeneres.
