Djokovic forced to retire hurt from Wimdledon

Raonic only ever kept things close in the final set of his loss against FedExpress, as the 35-year-old dominated the first two.

While it’s understandable, Berdych may have been disappointed about his Quarter-Final match against Novak Djokovic as the Serbian retired hurt in what could have been a classic (7 (7)-6 (2), 2-0). Maybe I could have got the match done in three sets there.

Federer leads Raonic 9-3 in head-to-head meetings and has reached his 50th Grand Slam quarter-final without dropping a set. “It’s the elbow that already keeps bothering for over a year and a half actually”, he said.

“There was an opportunity there, so I’m sad that it’s over.” said Murray, who was very sad at the press conference.

He has won every set he’s played this fortnight, the only semifinalist who can make that claim.

With rival and deposed champ Andy Murray having hip issues and Novak Djokovic pulling out due to an elbow complaint, Federer admitted he wasn’t in ideal shape either. The Swiss tennis superstar is the third seed this year at the Grand Slam.

Raonic beat Federer in the semifinals previous year, and then lost to Andy Murray in the final.

Britain’s Johanna Konta returns to Caroline Garcia of France during their Women’s Singles Match on day seven at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London Monday, July 10, 2017. “This year, the way he played in Australia was pretty incredible”.

But now the 31-year-old is through to his second successive Wimbledon semi-final, where he will go up against seven-times champion Federer.

“I don’t really play much golf and I know Rafa plays all the time, but putting is a very specific skill and I fancy my chances”.

Murray then took the third set in a tiebreak, and looked to be on his way to the semi-finals for the eighth time in the past nine years after he held his service game to start the fourth set.

Querrey is the first United States man to get to the last four at a major since Andy Roddick finished Wimbledon runner-up in 2009. Former US Open champion Marin Cilic takes on Sam Querrey in the other semi-final.

While Raonic failed to reach a second straight Wimbledon final, he does leave the tournament with his health.

Play at the two main stadiums will start at about 1:30 p.m.

“You can’t produce your best every day, but you want to keep your average as high as possible”, the 18-time grand slam victor said.

And so wildly dominant has Federer been this season – in which he also completed the Indian Wells and Miami Masters double – that a 19th major may not even be the exclamation mark to his grand career.

“What can be amusing is that in 2010 I beat Roger and then Novak”.
