‘Do Not Disturb While Driving’ feature coming to iPhone iOS 11

June 06 05:37 2017

Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) is here, and today’s keynote saw a number of VR-specific announcements including Apple’s first VR-ready computers to go along with the launch of the company’s newest macOS High Sierra.

Today, the gloves came off, but the true battle for AR supremacy may not arrive until the new iPhone does in September.

Here are the six biggest announcements from this morning. “The 15” MacBook Pro is also getting faster graphics.

The upgraded 12.9-inch iPad Pro includes the same A10X Fusion processor, while the form factor remains the same as its predecessor. All of these Macs are getting bumped up to the latest seventh-generation (Kaby Lake) Intel Core chips.

Now, there’s more to that sense of smoothness than just an improved screen. Siri will now be able to translate your voice and speak out the response, which seems very cool. The iMac Pro features four Thunderbolt 3 ports which can connect to up to two high-performance RAID arrays and two 5K displays at the same time for those who thrive on display real estate.

“It will reinvent home audio”, boasted Apple CEO Tim Cook.

HomePod is created to work with the Apple Music subscription service and can produce rich sound while tapping into the artificial intelligence power of Siri.

Flawless for Space Gray enthusiasts. Apple has also revealed its iMac Pro, which is simply a beast. The new iMac will be available at the end of the year and can be configured with up to CPU 18 cores and Graphical Processing Units with performance of up to 22 Teraflops. Despite using the same overall design, the new iMac Pro will use a new thermal architecture that can handle an 80% increase in cooling capacity. Apple also unveiled the high-end iMac Pro coming in December starting at about $5,000. The new model is modestly taller and thicker, but still weighs just 1 pound.

For photos, Apple is turning to a “high efficiency” format to replace the widely used JPEG standard.

The new 10.5-inch model reduces the borders by almost 40 percent to fit into an incredibly compact package that still weighs just one pound. This is a contactless system of payment that is going to have its own iMessage application within the latest iOS iteration, and so one can pay customers or suppliers directly within the messages.

Apple’s iOS 11 update is packed full of new features including improvements to Siri, an overhauled Control Center, a redesigned App Store, AirPlay2, and improvements to the camera.

Apple is also bringing the ability to send money to friends or other people through its payment service, Apple Pay.

If the iPhone 5 stays put on iOS 10, and at this point there’s no reason to believe Apple will surprise us this fall, the device won’t get the new batch of emojis.

Cook also launched iOS 11 with over 10 new features.

Amazon introduced the Echo speaker, featuring its Alexa assistant, in 2015.

HomePod looks like a generic speaker.

Streaming is not the only example where a spat between Apple and Amazon limited customer choice. It will determine if you are in a moving vehicle and will essentially prevent people in cars from using their phones.

Not a whole lot of details are now available from the official website other than that customers will be able to start a chat with businesses by searching for them from Siri, Spotlight, Safari, or Maps – which, if Apple can get businesses to sign on, will help iOS users avoid the need to have Messenger or Twitter installed in order to start interacting (i.e. file complaints) with various companies’ customer service departments.

HomePod costs $349 to start and will be available later this year.

By arriving on iPhone and iPad when iOS 11 releases this fall, ARKit will instantly become the biggest augmented reality platform in the world.
