Dolphins spoil Goff’s debut with rally to beat Rams, 14-10

November 23 09:22 2016

The same old Dolphins would have folded when down 10-0 late in the fourth quarter. Los Angeles forced a three-and-out on Miami’s ensuing drive as Ryan Tannehill and the offense continued to struggle in the first half.

The Rams were even controlling the Dolphins’ budding star at running back – Jay Ajayi.

Among their first 10 possessions were nine punts and an interception.

With left tackle Branden Albert (wrist) and centre Mike Pouncey (hip) out, Laremy Tunsil had to slide over to replace Albert, Kraig Urbik taking over for Tunsil at guard and Anthony Steen snapping the ball.

CLEVELAND – Le’Veon Bell scored on a 1-yard touchdown run long after time expired in the first half and the Pittsburgh Steelers had eight sacks and snapped a four-game losing streak with a win Sunday over the winless Cleveland Browns.

Tannehill capped off a six-play, 60-yard game-winning drive with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Parker with 40 seconds left in the game.

Goff’s Hail Mary pass was batted down in the end zone with no Ram receiver nearby.

At the groundbreaking of the Rams’ new stadium late last week, owner Stan Kroenke deferred when asked about the status of his coach’s contract extension. But the same team followed.

The Rams head to New Orleans for a game November 27 at 10:00 a.m. PST.

“There was nothing, from an offensive standpoint, that was minimized because of Jared”, Rams coach Jeff Fisher said. This was the 18th time since Fisher took over the team in 2012 that the Rams have lost a game by a TD or less.

Number 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Jared Goff did little to prove any doubters wrong in his first career NFL start. After playing so well for most of the game, the Rams defense went into prevention mode and let the game slip away. They were right on pace under Goff, with 10 points against the Dolphins.

That kind of consistency is unmatched! The Rams were aggressive with blitzes and, a couple times, irritated the Dolphins with some hard hits.

“He took some hits, he kept on ticking, he didn’t do anything insane, and he’s only gonna get better from here.”- Steve Mariucci on Jared Goff’s debut at quarterback.

The Rams kept it very conservative for him.

Goff finished 17-of-31 for 134 yards with zero touchdown passes and zero interceptions.

Zuerlein’s 48-yard attempt bounced off the upright – his first miss from inside 50 yards this season. “They did a good job of sticking with it, getting him off the field on third down and giving our offense another shot”. Put some pressure on the opposing defense. The Rams are not exactly set up for Goff to excel right away. The fact the Rams have been a play or two from winning in five of their six losses proves that. He was just out there.

And the defense certainly deserved some criticism on Sunday evening. Yeah, it was disappointing –in particular the two defensive drives considering the way the defense played throughout the game. After all, Kroenke never seemed to be all that concerned with the Rams’ record, and now that the team’s valuation jumped $2 billion just by relocating, who needs winning!

On the final two drives of a rainy Sunday in LA, the Dolphins somehow found a way to stay on a remarkable roll that could propel them all the way back to the playoffs.

All of this, of course, falls on Fisher, who must find a way to salvage this season and perhaps his job. “I told him before the game that I’m going to need to lean on you”. “The players have to play the game; coaches have to coach”. And that didn’t happen this time.

Unsteady DeVante Parker had to beat the Rams’ best cornerback, Trumaine Johnson.
