As many as 800,000 people are expected in Washington D.C. for the inauguration of President-Elect Donald Trump on Friday. An activist, she is also on a board for Planned Parenthood, which Trump has threatened to defund because of the organization’s support for abortion rights. “We were very disappointed when Trump won, and said we were not even going to go to the inauguration”.
“We are going to unify the country”. We’re not turning around.
Many notables are now organizing anti-Trump marches, like Chelsea Handler’s March on Main at the Sundance Film Festival and the Mark Ruffalo and Alec Baldwin-led protest at Trump International Hotel in New York City and the high-profile names like Lena Dunham who will be heading to Washington, D.C., for the massive Women’s March. Inauguration week event schedule ABC7 News Anchor Dan Ashley is live in Washington D.C. for the inauguration ceremonies. At the Garden State Presidential Inaugural Gala, hosted by the New Jersey State Society, the B Street Band, a Bruce Springsteen tribute band, was slated to play – but they’ve since bowed out of the event. Outgoing President Barack Obama and his family will also be on hand for the ceremony, then are set to depart the inauguration by helicopter. (Of course, that means there’s about a 30 to 40 percent chance it won’t rain – higher than the chance we gave Trump of becoming president.) Precipitation falling on January 20 is not unusual. The Women’s March on Washington is scheduled for the day after Trump takes the oath, and the Daily Caller, a conservative news outlet, reports protesters are planning an “anti-capitalist march” for Friday. Maybe Washington was onto something: the longest inaugural address was more than 8,000 words long and took almost two hours to deliver. In the USA history, there was only one time, when Ronald Reagan reassumed his office in the White House in 1985, that the swearing-in was not followed by the parade due to severe weather.
Some 900,000 people, both Trump backers and opponents, are expected to flood Washington for Friday’s inauguration ceremony, according to organizers’ estimates.
His defeated opponent Hillary Clinton, who polled almost three million more votes but lost the Electoral College, will attend the ceremony along with former President Bill Clinton. “Let’s work together to make this country great again”.
“We were actually Bernie Sanders supporters, then Clinton supporters”, Mason says at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
“I’m the messenger. I’m just a messenger”, he said.
