Ducks narrow Oilers series lead with win

After a four-goal third period in the series opener, the Oilers entered the rematch with plenty of the same energy.

The Oilers were outshot 40-23 but had their bacon saved by goaltender Cam Talbot.

“It’s called the playoffs and the other team gets in the way sometimes”, said the Oilers head coach. “He was wearing the big boy trousers tonight”.

“That’s a natural tendency for your go-to guy, when he’s being checked like that”.

The main problem with the Oilers play in Game 3 was the defence.

It seemed as it would be a flawless opening 20 minutes for the Ducks but they couldn’t get out of it unscathed. Puck drop from Rogers Place is 5:00pm, 630 CHED will have live coverage starting with the Face-Off Show at 3:00pm.

If the Oilers win, Mayor Tait will hang a poster from Edmonton’s tourism agency, Explore Edmonton, in Anaheim City Hall, encouraging Anaheim residents to visit the natural beauty and culture of North America’s largest northernmost metropolis. The fast start after a sluggish first two games was much needed-mostly because it didn’t last all too long. At this stage in the series, they have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Like the Ducks, San Jose, the defending conference champion, was billed as superior to the young Oilers by way of their playoff experience.

Jakob Silfverberg scored twice for Anaheim although his second of the game will irritate Oilers fans until Wednesday’s Game 4. The goal that Gibson surrendered to Andrej Sekera early in Game 2 was one that an National Hockey League goalie has to stop. Talbot was stellar in Game 2 with 39 saves but the visitors got to him early, scoring on two of their first three shots.

“The task doesn’t get any easier going home”, Talbot said. Then, at 4:56 of the third, Silfverberg got his second goal of the game.

As for the Oilers, they find themselves up 2-1 after three games for the second straight round. “You see that by them booing certain players when they come to town and that’s just part of it”.

Anaheim came into this series as favorites after sweeping the Calgary Flames in the first round, but a long wait between games may have made them a little rusty for games one and two of this one.

Meanwhile, the Anaheim Ducks were able to bounce back from consecutive home losses to Edmonton. He won 16 of the 19 face-offs he took, and everyone knows that you can’t win without having possession. Tickets cost $5, with proceeds going to the organisation’s community foundation.

“The guys have always believed in our depth”, McDavid said. “It is exciting for our city, and great for our brand”.

And the Ryan Kesler line, charged on and off with shadowing, pestering and checking the McDavid line, finally answered back with some pure offence.

As it stands, Perry is playing a bottom-six role alongside Antoine Vermette and Logan Shaw.

The Ducks then caught two breaks to put the game away.

Tyler Pitlick, who got had a lower-body injury is out for the season with; Drake Caggiula was pulled out in Game 2 with an injury but is hopeful of play on Sunday.

“We weren’t sharp enough, individual miscues were plenty”, said Oilers coach Todd McLellan.

The Oilers also have to match the Ducks’ intensity.

“I’m trying to be the best player I can personally possibly be, and I try to do that night in and night out”, Draisaitl said.
