“Dancing with the Stars” has wrapped up what could go down as one of the most surprise-filled seasons in its 24-season history. This dance is a complete 180 from the last one, and is raw with emotion.
“I never won anything before”, said Jennings after he and professional partner Emma Slater were handed the trophy.
The pair repeated their Viennese waltz and did an incredible job. And Emma’s choreography was attractive.
Judges couldn’t resist the spirit of Ross’ freestyle and awarded him a flawless 40, for a total of 73 out of 80 for the night. “Watching you gives me joy”. And Julianne Hough said, “That is going in the book as an [iconic freestyle]”.
Kordei and Chmerkovskiy got a ideal score for their freestyle to “What the World Needs Now is Love” by Andra Day, while Ross’ and Arnold’s baseball-themed freestyle to “It Takes Two”/”Take Me Out to the Ballgame” by Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock/Ronnie Neuman gave Ross his first flawless score ever. He received a score of 40.
All David Ross and Lindsay Arnold lacked was a hot dog and a beer in their baseball theme freestyle. While David was still a little bouncy rather than as smooth as he should be with some of his steps, it was soft and romantic. Score: three 8s and a 9 for 33 out of 40. The redemption dances were then followed by the freestyle dances. Could he pull off a shocking upset victory by winning the Mirror Ball Trophy? Say what you will about him “not deserving it”, but what does anyone really deserve on a cheesy dance competition? He was not totally on board for it at first, but I kept telling him, “You have to own it and go for it or it will just look silly”. It had a bit of everything, from dance to gymnastics.
Heading into Tuesday night, Ross was solidly third behind second-place Kordei and first-place Jennings in the judges’ scoring.
The mood in the ballroom totally switched gears to a attractive, inspirational routine by Normani and Val. Maybe the two guys have a larger fan base than the Fifth Harmony member, but that doesn’t change who was clearly the better dancer. In charisma, maybe, but not in talent on the dance floor. David has consistently shown an awesome stage presence during each dance number, despite any technical difficulties he may have faced during rehearsal. “The man of the moment”.
Against all odds, former Chicago Cubs catcher David Ross advanced to the finals of Dancing with the Stars, finishing as the runner-up in Season 24. No lavish opening dance routine, no fanfare. After their performances on Monday, each couple selected two contrasting dance styles to fuse together in 24 hours in hopes of wowing the judges one final time.
