As he lay dying in a Veterans Administration hospital he had one wish, to see his beloved horses Sugar and Ringo one last time.
Roberto Gonzalez became paralyzed after being shot while fighting for our country in the Vietnam War in 1970, WOAI reported. His family and horses surrounded him as his body’s rhythms slowed.
A hospitalized Vietnam vet asked for one last visit with his beloved horses before he dies.
The South Texas Veterans Health Care System posted a photo of the meeting on its Facebook page. “His family brought two horses to the Spinal Cord Injury Center at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital”.
Roberto Gonzalez’s last wish as he lay paralyzed in a veterans hospital was to say goodbye to his horses, Sugar and Ringo.
While he is in critical condition, Hernandez said that Gonzalez did open his eyes and acknowledge his much-loved animals.
“He loved horses, he loved cattle, he loved ranching and farming”.
But, she said, Gonzalez never let his injuries slow him down.
The horses immediately recognized him and are seen nuzzling him gently, as he reached out to stroke them.
Gonzalez’s May 21 visit with the horses came 46 years to the day after he was wounded in Vietnam.
