As the days go by and the speculation grows, it seems as though the Eagles are veering towards Doug Pederson to become their new Head Coach despite Ben McAdoo reportedly leading the race.
The Eagles did not confirm the hiring, but stated that they have “concluded our search for a head coach”, and said no further interviews are scheduled, according to Bowen.
He followed Reid to Kansas City in 2013 and has been his offensive coordinator since.
Pederson will join the Eagles after serving as offensive coordinator for the Chiefs.
Pederson was one of six potential candidates the team announced they had conducted an interview with.
Chip Kelly remains unemployed as National Football League teams fill head coaching vacancies.
Pederson is the 23 coach in Eagles history and the fourth coach hired during Jeffrey Lurie’s ownership of the team, following Ray Rhodes, Andy Reid and Kelly. “He’s ready to do that and if he has that opportunity, more power to him”. He insisted Wednesday that he is focused on Saturday’s playoff game against the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. Former Eagles star Brian Dawkins says the Birds should interview McDermott who was a defensive coach with the franchise during the defensive back’s tenure. “I’m not sure how much better they get”.
Asked where he stands, Pederson told McLane, “They’re still in the process”. He understands strategy and things like that. But he said he gave Pederson some opportunities to make calls, and Pederson has helped quarterback Alex Smith lead the Chiefs to two postseason appearances in three years.
This is nothing new to Reid, of course. It’s a “compliment to the hard work he’s put in and he’s done a nice job“.
