Bob Goodlatte, R-Roanoke County, said he was cautiously optimistic Republicans would retain the U.S. Senate and said the presidential race would be “tight”.
Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton has won Virginia’s 13 electoral votes in the 2016 US presidential election. Polls in the tiny New Hampshire towns of Dixville, Hart’s Location and Millsfield opened just after midnight and closed as soon as everyone had voted. He’ll govern with a Republican-controlled Congress and lead a country deeply divided by his rancorous campaign against Clinton.
Overall, Clinton beat Trump in Virginia by 4.7 percentage points with 99.65 percent of precincts reporting on Wednesday. Clinton also campaigned on a clean energy platform while Trump promised to support the coal industry.
In a phone interview Tuesday morning on “Fox and Friends”, the Republican presidential nominee said: “We’re going to win a lot of states”.
He accused the media of painting Trump as hating African-Americans and other minority groups in the USA, adding that the Republican nominee would get a chink of the minority votes.
Stewart, who is chairman of the Board of Supervisors in Prince William County, said he’ll campaign on a promise of implementing Trump’s policies in the state. In congressional races, freshman Republican Barbara Comstock fended off a challenge in Virginia’s most closely watched race, though Democrats managed to pick up a seat downstate thanks to a court-ordered redistricting.
Eric Trump said, “we’ve seen states where a few thousand votes can make a difference”.
“There’s nothing that can stop us”, he said.
The “lean” Democratic states are Colorado, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin with a total of 68 Electoral College votes.
Clinton won Virginia’s 13 electoral votes with 71,834 votes more than Donald Trump. He says those people were given provisional ballots and the elections office will work quickly to process them.
Clinton finally re-appeared after she abruptly canceled her scheduled appearance at the Javits Center in Manhattan on election night, unable to face her devastated supporters in a venue they’d chosen for a grand victory. Kaine clapped loudly and enthusiastically at her every line while the former president looked inconsolable and clapped nearly as a routine.
