Election day ahead: Jeremy Corbyn to launch Labour’s schools policy

Corbyn fought off a challenge to his leadership past year thanks to overwhelming grassroots support, but his critics, including some senior Labour figures, have remained vocal.

In his Manchester speech in front of cheering supporters, Labour MPs and the shadow cabinet, Mr Corbyn insisted “Brexit is settled”, in an attempt to reassure Leave voters in the party’s heartlands that internal party splits have been resolved and the United Kingdom would leave the European Union if he becomes PM.

However, Mr Kenny told The Standard this wasn’t the case.

“Labour wants a jobs-first Brexit, a Brexit that safeguards the future of Britain’s vital industries, a Brexit that paves the way to a genuinely fairer society and an upgraded economy“, he said at the campaign launch in the northern city of Manchester.

Gains from a rise in income tax for those earning above £80,000 will be used to invest £6 billion in Britain’s treasured National Health Service, The Daily Mirror reported. He insisted that he would “get a good deal from Europe” – but wouldn’t say what would happen if he didn’t.

Mr Corbyn also wanted to “help frame a society in which we don’t have so much isolation amongst the elderly and such massive divisions between the wealthy and the poor”.

Conservative Brexit minister David Davis said Corbyn was incapable of negotiating with Brussels.

My Nearest Marginal makes it as easy as possible for people to find the swing seat near them where they can have the most impact, and to carpool there with other activists, delivering Labour’s message about building a Britain for the many, not the few”.

The increase in corporation tax to 26% by 2020-21 will still leave it at the lowest rate in the G7, Labour said – although U.S. president Donald Trump has vowed to slash the rate in his country to 15%.

The party faces “a difficult” general election and the prospect of winning only two seats, he says.

“This election isn’t about Brexit itself”, he said.

Labour, the Liberal Democrats and education unions have turned their fire on the Tories over school funding as the classroom became the latest election battleground.

“When we win, the British people win”.

“Don’t wake up on June 9 to see celebrations from the tax cheats, the press barons, the greedy bankers, Philip Green, the Southern Rail directors and crooked financiers that take our wealth, who have got away with it because the party they own, the Conservative Party, has won”. “The nurse, the teacher, the carer, the builder, the office worker – they all win”.
