The model’s backing comes shortly after Harry Potter fans aired concerns that 45-year-old Noma – who will play Hermione in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – bared little resemblance to the original actress. As a matter of fact, Watson announced that she “can’t wait to see” Dumezweni as Hermione.
Author J.K. Rowling chimed in to say that Dumezweni as Hermione fits right in with her vision of the Potter canon, and she “loves” the idea of the actress taking on the part.
Watson tweeted from her official account, saying “Can’t wait to see Noma Dumezweni as Hermione on stage this year” and added a string of heart emojis.
Before Dumezweni was casted in “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child“, Watson played Hermoine Granger in nine films. “White skin was never specified”, the Harry Potter author tweeted in December 2015. Of course, Elba’s character has gone on to become one of the most beloved in the Marvel Universe by fans.
Matthew Lewis – who plays Neville Longbottom in the film franchise – also took to Twitter to express his disgust at some of the reactions from social media users. I really don’t care.
The play is scheduled to open in July 2016 at the Palace Theatre, London. Jamie Parker has been cast as Potter, and Paul Thornley will play Weasley.
