We’re looking forward to a thrilling conclusion to this fight. Having seen more Pacquiao fights than Jeff Horn has had in his entire career, I can say that there is one clear favourite. Lonergan said more than 47,000 tickets had already been sold already nearly 10,000 more than the Australian record for boxing and they were on track to top 50,000.
Horn says he’s ready to fight. Other events on the card include Shane Mosley Jr. and Michael Conlan defending their super middleweight and super bantamweight titles, respectively.
Days before their upcoming welterweight clash in Brisbane, it appears that reigning WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has somehow found a way to get under challenger Jeff Horn’s skin.
The experience factor should (and probably will) be significant throughout, meaning I can only see one outcome, and that is a win for the diminutive champion.
Horn has an edge on most of the physical intangibles.
“Instead he’s been using (Filipino) Czar Amonsot as a sparring partner and he is nowhere near as fast as Manny”. He still has the speed, reflexes, power and experience.
In 2013, Pacquiao was scheduled to fight United States boxer Brandon Rios in Macau on November 24.
Its no secret that Jeff Horn had made at least a couple of kissing visits to the canvas in previous fights. He has been knocked down in two of his last three fights (both won by TKO), but he has also out-landed his last four opponents 21-8 in punches per round.
Jeff Horn was asked to name the toughest opponent he has fought.
“It’s very hard for anyone to copy the style of Pacquiao but we got the closest thing out there that we could”, Horn said.
Horn’s most notable victories have come against Ali Funeka, Rico Mueller, Viktor Potnikov, and Randall Bailey. Fighting humble schoolteacher Jeff Horn a crowd of around 50,000 are still expected to fill the seats.
Horn will look to pack the weight back on with food and fluids over the next 24 hours and could weight as much as 71kg by the time the fight begins around 1.30pm AEST on Sunday, giving him a sizeable weight advantage over Pacquiao. Australia will be the sixth country that Pacquiao has competed in.
Pacquiao has not been at lightweight since 2008, when he knocked out David Diaz.
Its quite a marketing feat how the Battle of Brisbane, which took off limply and was tagged early as a budding mismatch, got this far and is, in fact, the most awaited boxing bout for the weekend.
