Even Terrell Edmunds was surprised to hear his name called

Ryan Shazier delivered the most powerful moment of the 2018 NFL Draft. He was taken 12 picks after the Buffalo Bills chose his younger brother with the 16th selection.

Both brothers out of Virginia Tech were selected in the first round.

At the NFL Draft, Shazier’s recovery took another step, as he walked to the podium to deliver the pick for his Pittsburgh Steelers. After the season, the Steelers released veteran safeties Mike Mitchell and Robert Golden and cornerback William Gay.

They benefited from the overall devaluation of the linebacker position by most teams in the National Football League, and it helped Edmunds stick around far longer than they figured he would.

“Pick-up-and-dive”, Edmunds said “Pick-up-and-die sounds kind of ruthless, but it’s kind of like that because you’re getting tackled by everybody”. They say some progression they see week-to-week, they see from me day-to-day. The pair now looks primed to be the next great brother tandem to play in the NFL. While he won’t play in 2018 as he’s still recovering, Ryan is still a beloved member of the Steelers organization and it showed as they used him to name the newest addition to the team. Edmunds had a career high 89 tackles in 2016 before injuries limited him to 59 tackles in 10 games while also shifting from rover to free safety. The year before, Edmunds finished with four interceptions.
