Facebook said the new Reactions are based on the most common responses people post to the social network, which were then boiled down into a handful of categories.
The names of the Reactions are angry, sad, wow, haha, yay and love.
Some of Facebook’s 1.55 billion users had already had a chance to try out the new feature, known as Facebook Reactions.
To use one of the new reactions, you’ll have to hold your thumb on the “Like” button to scroll through and select the one that sums up your mood.
Although many Facebook users have long wished for a “dislike” button to be added to the site, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has expressed concern in the past that the button would convey too much negativity.
Your EDM has seen these on our posts since last October right around when they were announced, and we think they bring a lot of interesting interaction to the table.
According to Thenextweb.com, Facebook’s chief product officer Chris Cox has confirmed that reactions are going global. Testing of the feature began among some users in Spain and Ireland a year ago, but it seems the time has nearly come to make it more widely available (although it appears that the “yay” option available in testing has since been dropped from Facebook’s plans).
Reactions provide users with a different way to express their humor, sadness, love and awe depending on the situation. That means you’ll finally have an option to react when your friends post sad news-or just post another annoying “Be Like Bill” meme.
