The Spurs rallied from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to take the lead 94-93 on Aldridge’s fadeaway jumper with 1:10 left in the game.

Kawhi Leonard scored 29 and sank a jumper from the top of the key with 0.9 left to lift the Spurs to a 98-96 win over the Magic on Wednesday night.

That’s a tough shot. But Payton missed a reverse layup attempt just as time expired, leading to a collective groan from the announced crowd of 17,467. Still, you can bet Orlando’s young floor general expects to make a try like this one – whether the game is on the line or otherwise.

Burned so often this season on buzzer-beating shots – including one at the end of Wednesday’s first quarter by San Antonio’s Patty Mills – the Magic got one to go their way when Oladipo drilled a 3-pointer just before the first-half horn. Gregg Popovich will no doubt let the Aussie point guard know all about his almost game-defining gaffe.

Out of halftime, the Magic started a little slowly, with the Spurs regaining the lead early in the quarter.

The Magic (23-28) are now battling the Detroit Pistons (27-26), Charlotte Hornets (26-26), Washington Wizards (23-27), New York Knicks (23-32), and the Bucks (21-32) for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference standings, with the playoffs also approaching. After a pair of free throws from Mario Hezonja, the Magic found themselves heading into the fourth quarter with a good chance to secure their third straight win, up 79-67.

LaMarcus Aldridge made four free throws to cut the Spurs’ deficit to 93-92.

Harris has played and started in 49 games for Orlando so far, averaging 13.7 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 32.9 minutes of action per contest. After San Antonio scored seven consecutive points to take a 50-40 lead, the Magic ended the half by scoring 11 straight points.

After the Spurs called a timeout, Kawhi Leonard made a 19-foot jumper over Aaron Gordon’s outstretched hand to break the tie with 0.9 seconds left.

Oladipo and Fournier accounted for all 11 points during the closing run to the second quarter. The Spurs got back on track with 15-point victory over Orlando in their next game. Tony Parker did not play after suffering a sprained ankle in Tuesday’s win over Miami.

Tim Duncan returned for the Spurs after missing eight games with a sore knee. Nikola Vucevic added 20 points and 13 rebounds, while Victor Oladipo added 14 for Orlando (23-29), who have 15 of their last 19 games.

The Spurs didn’t struggle for long.
