The headlights are smaller than the ones on the current model and they each get three short strips of LED daytime running lights. The range now consists of only the 2.3-litre Ecoboost and 5.0-litre V8 GT, with the latter engine receiving a few tweaks.
Transmission options include an enthusiast-friendly, six-speed manual transmission and a brand-new 10-speed automatic that replaces the current car’s six-speed unit. But for the 2015 edition of the ‘Stang, Ford celebrated the 50th anniversary of all-American muscle by turning the mean machine into more of a sports auto.
Ford says the 2018 Mustang Coupe will go on sale in North America sometime this Fall, with further details such as pricing expected closer to launch. Mustang created the sports auto portion in 1965 and experienced significant plan and drivetrain moves up to praise its 50th commemoration three years prior. Overall U.S. sales of the Mustang, however, fell 13 percent to 105,932 in 2016. There’s also an updated 6-speed manual gearbox created to handle the added power of the new V8. It was painted in Orange Fury – one of three new paint colors this year – and also featured the Performance Pack’s new spoiler, which has been enlarged and stands out almost as much as the paint.
“To me, the 2015 Mustang is like a pure canvass”, said Melvin Betancourt, the Mustang’s exterior designer.
The 2018 Mustang gets a redesigned front end, but the differences are hard to spot.
Under the hood, the 3.7L V6 is gone and the 5.0L V8 has been upgraded. The transmission paired with the V-8 engine has been redesigned to include a twin-disc clutch and dual-mass flywheel for increased torque. The revised Mustang will feature a number of new technological innovations, including a 10-speed automatic transmission, so-called MagneRide adaptive suspension and a configurable digital instrument panel inspired by the maker’s GT supercar. That’s all thanks to Ford’s dual-fuel, high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure port fuel injection, applied for the very first time on a V8 engine. The two brands just weren’t in the same hemisphere, as Ford made affordable sports cars and sedans for the common folk while BMW made posher sports cars and sedans for posher people. The growl of a big V8 now comes with a load of technologies, ensuring that the pony vehicle will remain relevant in the 21st century. He added that Ford doesn’t yet know what the fuel economy will be for the EcoBoost or the GT, but the Americanb automaker expects to see an improvement in efficiency from the previous generation.
