It was a period of limbo for an unknown number of non-American citizens from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia or Yemen now barred from the country where they were studying or had lived, perhaps for years. “You see it at the airports, you see it all over”, Trump told reporters while signing separate executive measures at the White House on Saturday.

The Washington Post reports that “at least one refugee family is detained at San Francisco International Airport, but it is not clear how many refugees are now held at airports nationwide”.

Thousands of people have demonstrated across Britain in protest at US President Donald Trump’s immigration ban.

Mass protests also broke out at major airports, including Washington, Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Dallas.

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) is a national resource center that helps train immigration lawyers and advocates, as well as communities to advocate for the rights of immigrants.

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe said that a family was detained at Dulles International Airport, where demonstrators were also gathering. Trump’s critics have said his action violated U.S. law and the U.S. Constitution.

The court has set a date to hear the case for the end of February.

Trump, however, suggested an orderly rollout.

A federal judge blocked part of President Trump’s executive order on immigration Saturday evening, ordering that refugees and others trapped at airports across the United States should not be sent back to their home countries.

And protests are gathering at John F. Kennedy International Airport, where two Iraqi refugees were detained, including one who had served as an interpreter for the US. In addition to Darweesh, Haider Sameer Abdulkhaleq Alshawi had worked for a US contractor and was still being detained at JFK as of Saturday afternoon.

Mr Trump also signed an order for new spending on the U.S. armed forces which includes new planes and ships.

“This obviously was an illegal detention”.

Customs and Border Protection was notifying airlines about passengers whose visas had been cancelled or legal residents scheduled to fly back to the U.S. Airlines were being told to keep them off those flights. Denver has some direct worldwide flights but it wasn’t clear whether anyone has been detained under the president’s executive order.

The president’s statement to mark that occasion, on the 72nd anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, made no mention of Jews or anti-Semitism. His wife has a green card.

The temporary halt is aimed at giving the Department of Homeland Security, the State Department and the Director of National Intelligence time to determine what information is needed from each country to ensure that visas are not issued to individuals posing a national security threat.

Travelers from the Middle East were stopped from boarding US-bound planes and some already in the air when Trump signed the executive order were detained on arrival, the New York Times reported.

“Painting more than 200 million people with the same broad brush is contrary to the principles on which this nation was founded and will not make us any safer”, Feinstein said in a statement.

But names of the countries affected by the ban are nowhere to be found in the executive order itself and were not decided by Trump.

Trump senior adviser Kellyanne Conway reaffirmed the president’s decision in a Twitter post on Saturday. Shock to the system.

This call was widely rejected by both Democrats and Republicans while Mr Trump remained just a candidate.

Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said that the refugee action “goes against the fundamental nature of freedom of religion in our country”.
