Hardin County Schools and Elizabethtown Independent Schools will be closed Friday as a winter storm is expected to move into the area.
There’s a flood watch in effect for all of Western New York except Allegany County from 10 a.m. Thursday through 4 a.m. Saturday. It’s a somewhat different story on the Eastern Plains were if the snow develops soon enough, it’s possible there could be a quick inch or two of snow which of course would be very welcomed.
Along I-80 and elevated areas could also see more than 8 inches of snow in widespread areas. There’s a high chance of snow Thursday and Friday, but no totals have been predicted. The freezing rain is forecast to change to sleet late Friday afternoon.
The northwestern part of our region could begin seeing the impact early Friday morning. Mixed precipitation, snow and blowing snow expected. North winds will increase to 15 to 20 miles per hour with gusts as high as 30 miles per hour, so some blowing and drifting snow will develop Friday night. Even a few miles shift in the track will greatly affect how much snow you will see in your area. Northwest wind 5 to 15 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 25 miles per hour.
Temperatures will fall into the teens by Friday night and winds will increase to 15-20 miles per hour.
As the low spreads moisture into the cold air across the OH rain will change to a rain, sleet and snow mix.
After highs in the 30s again on Wednesday, temperatures are forecast to plunge in the wake of the snow. Snow and blowing snow is expected to continue Thursday, mostly before noon.
By afternoon and early evening, everyone transitions to periods of snow. Temperatures falling through the day with highs ranging from near 30 northwest to around 50 across the plateau.
Drivers can expect icy, snow-packed roads through the rest of the week.
This all comes after near record highs on Thursday.
