The MTV Video Music Awards is usually just a celebration of the top-performing artists in the industry, but when you’re a world-renowned gymnast like Simone Biles, you get a special invitation to attend.
She shared the news via Instagram, writing that she was out of the hospital and “resting comfortably”.
Her gymnast pals Aly Raisman, Madison Kocian, Laurie Hernandez and Simone Biles all walked the carpet. “FinalFive so sad I can’t be with u all to present tonight”, she wrote.
Without Douglas, the four other Olympians took turns introducing the nominees for the best female video category, an award that went to singer Beyonce.
And it’s safe to say that the gold medal winners, who will be presenting at Sunday night’s show, were this year’s red carpet #squadgoals.
Douglas became the first African American to win the Olympic title in London in 2012 and the first United States gymnast to claim both the team and all-around gold medals in a single Games. “Either it was about my hair or my hand not over my heart or I look depressed. It was. It’s been kind of a lot to deal with”.
Her sacrifices have definitely paid off.
According to ABC News, Olympic gymnastics star Gabby Douglas missed the big show because she was being treated for a mouth infection. They said she had breast enhancements, they said she wasn’t smiling enough, she’s unpatriotic.
