Bale’s in his prime and one of the best players in world football.

According to reports published by Marca, Manchester United target Gareth Bale is set to extend his contract at Real Madrid in an attempt to ward off interest from England.

He said: “Real Madrid are a club so anxious about image that when I interviewed Bale it was requested to me, “don’t put in the article how much Gareth Bale cost”.

It’s alleged that Madrid wanted to keep quiet that Bale cost more than Cristiano Ronaldo to preserve the Portuguese’s status as the world’s most expensive player.

Whether Ronaldo likes it or not.

Florentino Perez’s favourite in the dressing room, Gareth Bale would prove to be a hard target for Manchester United, especially since the club will be unable to bring in any prospective replacement in the light of the recent transfer ban.

Were the club to offer Madrid a swap deal involving David De Gea, it would be impossible for their rivals to go like-for-like with a comparable offer (barring an acceleration in cloning technology in the coming months).

It is already being reported how Real Madrid apparently tried to say Bale’s transfer fee was not as high as that of Cristiano Ronaldo, although the documents do reveal it was a world record sum of €99,743,542.

“The way Real Madrid is run, it’s always to be decided in the summer what happens next”.

Real have long maintained Bale only cost €91 million.

The Press Association, however, reports that that Bale’s agent is relaxed about the transfer agreement being in public domain as it contains no details about salary or other personal information.

Details of Bale’s shift from English club Tottenham Hotspur to the Spanish giants have merged. There are plans to increase Welshman Bale’s annual wage to $23m.
