Gas prices hold steady at average $2.18 per gallon in RI

Gas prices are dropping across the region and holding steady in New York State, according to the latest survey from AAA. A year ago, the NY state average was $2.57.

Motorists are now saving an average of $18 for a full tank of gas compared to what they paid this time two years ago, when pump prices surpassed $3 a gallon.

The Dearborn-based auto club said the average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was about $2.19 per gallon on Monday. It stands 17.2 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

According to a survey of more than 4,300 stations in the state, central IL remains quite a bit lower than the overall state average. As gasoline prices have fallen, wholesale prices remain similar to last week, leading GasBuddy analysts to believe that a price hike is likely coming soon. Gas prices typically fall at this time each year, but this year’s savings are greater than those of last year, thanks to relatively low crude oil prices. In Mayfield, prices start at 1.91; Calvert City 1.95; and Benton 1.98.

Fuel prices are falling as we head into the fall season and the summer driving season comes to a close.
