German Marquez: German Marquez part of Corey Dickerson trade

January 28 20:00 2016

At this point, let’s just appreciate Corey Dickerson, be sad that he’s gone and wish him and his beatiful swing luck in Tampa Bay.

The Rockies have yet another new arm for their bullpen, and one less outfielder to worry about.

The plantar fasciitis does raise some concern, as that can be a nagging injury that can flare up again, but for the Rays, acquiring the 26 year old Dickerson is worth the risk as he can certainly add some much needed pop to a lineup that has struggled consistently at the plate for the last few seasons. The report also says that the trade has the Rockies and Rays trading minor league pitching prospects. While at Coors Field, Corey Dickerson boasts a.355/.410/.675 slash line; however, he owns a.249/.286/.410 slash line on the road. Since the team signed Gerardo Parra two weeks ago – giving Colorado four starting-caliber outfielders who all hit left-handed – the expectation has been that Dickerson, Charlie Blackmon or Carlos Gonzalez would be gone by spring training. Jake McGee regularly throws in the middle-to-upper 90s, and he was one of the most lethal left-handed relief pitchers in years prior to the trade. 218 with 15 home runs and 40 RBIs for Baltimore last season. 315 with all 10 of his home runs coming off righties in 2015. However, last season, Jake McGee found himself injured for a good majority of the season, raising eyebrows on his health moving forward. Dickerson is under team control until 2020, a factor in the Rays way of building a team. Now, with this move, the Rockies have made it clear that this was not going to happen. The club could have attempted to pick up a few young starters, or perhaps a more legitimate first baseman in the deal, but settled on a reliever who will be a free-agent following the 2017 season.

Rumors from earlier this week found the Colorado Rockies and Tampa Bay Rays were discussing a trade.
