If you’ve played with the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility feature yet in order to enjoy some of your Xbox 360 titles on the modern machine, you know the operation is a mixed bag. Since then, various games have been included in the program, allowing players to simply download or put in an Xbox 360 disc to play.
For a very limited time, CD Projekt is giving away a free digital copy of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings via Xbox Live starting today until February 5.
Free download of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is available in the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, France and Germany. And the second addition, from December, added 16 more games.
Available today alongside “The Witcher 2” is a variety of titles.
Previously, Microsoft had released lists games in a large bundle, with 104 games revealed as the initial library.
On the flip side, titles like Condemned and Hydro Thunder actually play better on the Xbox One. Instead, Microsoft is now pushing a pilot scheme where it releases games as soon as they become available, after each title has “received the engineering and publisher stamp of approval”.
But recent months saw Sony‘s console sales skyrocket and leave a huge gap between both systems, epitomized by the PS4 almost doubling the sales of the Xbox One at the final month of a year ago.
The Witcher 2 was not the only Xbox game to get backwards compatibility this week. It even works with physical disks, just pop one into the Xbox One console and you’ll be ready to go. This is most apparent in cut scenes, which can look much better thanks to hardware improvements on the Xbox One.
