Now, they’re taking another approach – with a new feature called Gmailify, you can now get Gmail features on a Yahoo and Hotmail/Outlook accounts that have been linked to your Gmail account. The feature works only through its Android Gmail app and on the web, and it’s restricted to Yahoo, Outlook, and Hotmail accounts. Then select the option to Gmailify your inbox. You can always change the “from” address again in Settings on the Android Gmail app.
The spam protection and Google Now cards are the best features and really sound like a great addition.
To get started, you’ll need to open the Gmail app, sign in to your email account(s) and enable the Gmailify button, Google software engineer Michael Käser in the company blog post wrote. Gmailify builds on that by allowing you to use Google’s spam filters, organization tools, and Google Now cards on those addresses as if they were actual Gmail addresses. The feature groups your mail into categories that you can pick, like Social, Promotions, and Updates alongside Primary, which is reserved for your most important messages. The service was intended for people using Yahoo! The most important one is the spam protection, as Gmail’s spam filtering system is the best among email providers. This, in essence, is linking your non-Gmail account to Google’s mail service.
Choose the non-Gmail account that you want to use Gmailify with and then tap on Link account. But this new Gmail update brings some of the Google features to your email without having to migrate to a Gmail address.
