Google must standardise Assistant across all its smartphones first, to take on Siri because Apple makes sure all its phones get the same features.
In a moment in which Android devices are expected to be more competitive and popular than ever, a new report reveals that the Google assistant will now be available for these smartphones. Thankfully, a full firmware update isn’t necessary to start using Google Assistant. But the technology was announced earlier in 2016, in May, at Google I/O.
Google Assistant which was featured as one of the best features of Google Pixel devices will make their way to other smartphones.
The Google Assistant has come a long way.
While Google Assistant, essentially an evolution of the Google Now voice command options, first launched in May past year, it was restricted to Google Pixel handsets and a few other select devices, like Google Home (which isn’t yet available in the UK) and Google Wearsmartwatches.
Google Assistant lets you talk to your phone in a conversational way, providing answers to questions about the weather, flight information and appointments. With millions of.phones running Marshmallow and Nougat.Google’s own virtual assistant gains ubiquity in the race for proprietary voice-enabled companions. That is, they allow you to perform the same tasks, often using the exact same interaction techniques.
However, according to the Google’s Developer dashboard, almost about 30-percent of the smartphones are now running on Android version 6.0 and above.
Anyway, here’s how it’s happening. Google Assistant will support the German language in Germany, and Google has said it will roll out support for more languages throughout 2017. More languages would be made available for the course of the year. It will automatically become available to eligible Android phones with Google Play Services. Specifically, you’ll need to have Google Play Services installed, so phones in China will not be able to utilize Assistant. Google Assistant was recently added to Android Wear 2.0 through new smartwatch introductions and is supposed to soon also be introduced to smart TVs and vehicles.
