Confirming the widely circulating event/?utm_campaign=Mash-BD-Synd-Yahoo-Tech-Full&utm_cid=Mash-BD-Synd-Yahoo-Tech-Full” target=”_blank”>rumors in the tech circles, Google has formally announced at its live event today that its new phone is named Pixel, designed and made by Google.
Google Photos comes built-in on the phone, automatically organizing photos as you capture them. This includes advanced video stabilization that employs both software, through advanced algorithms; and hardware, by sampling data from the gyroscope 200 times a second. Google released its first Nexus phone in 2010, and has partnered with several different original equipment manufacturers since then.
Taking on Apple’s iPhones, Google has launched its new “Made by Google” Pixel smartphones, stating that the device integrates the “best of hardware and software”.
The new phone can get a 7-hour charge in 15 minutes, says Google.
The Carphone Warehouse leak also suggest that the smaller phone will have a 5-inch Full HD display, while the larger model will have a 5.5-inch Quad HD display. Under its hood is a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 processor clocked at 1.59 GHz coupled with a 4GB RAM + 32GB supported by an expandable storage of up to 128GB.
Google is set to take the wraps off its next smartphones, the Google Pixel and Pixel XL later today.
Pixel supports automatic updates, a feature built into Android Nougat 7.1.
Additionally, if Google finds too much success with these phones, it might upset phone makers who use its Android software to run their own devices. We knew nearly everything there was to know about these Nexus replacements heading into today’s event, but leaks and rumors never really do a good job of painting a complete picture.
A new virtual reality headset and other devices, such as a home router, could also be on tap, according to analysts and industry blogs.
Pichai said: “It’s clear we’re moving from a mobile first to an AI-first world, the assistant will be universal, available when the users need it”. The phones, along with the new Google Home smart speaker, should act as conduits to get people to keep pinging Google for more queries, helping it make more money along the way.
As an extra bonus, Google is giving Pixel owners free unlimited storage for photos and videos at full resolution with Google Photos. The company’s Daydream platform, unveiled at its Google I/O developer conference in May, combines virtual reality headsets and controllers that let you use VR right from your Android smartphone. Those were the stars of a special event focused on new Google hardware, underpinned by the new Google Assistant.
