Google releases new ‘Live Cases’ for Nexus 5X and 6P

April 14 23:01 2016

Now available for the Nexus 5X, 6 and 6P, Google says both photos and maps can be used for custom cases. From there, you can choose from various styles and color schemes that can help you create some striking case setups. The concept is simple: customize a case with your favorite photo or a section of a map from Google Maps. It has introduced Live Cases which people can create themselves.

In addition the customized case itself, each Live Case will come with a live wallpaper based on your personalization. In other words, you can either choose to upload your own photos, or select locations from Google Maps. Now, Google is adding one more case to that line up and this one is more interesting. Google is letting you customise this case with either a photograph or a place and some of the styles available. You can even set the button to launch places of interest around you or activate the accompanying live wallpaper. If you chose a place instead, Google Maps will open and show you some stuff to visit around your location.

Once you snap on your shiny new case, which has an NFC tag built in to it, your wallpaper will turn to a slideshow of a number of photos that you chose from Google Photos. With a tap of the shortcut button, the app will show you what’s nearby on Google Maps. Few things are more personal to us than our phones these days and Google recognizes this fact, so it has come up with a new way to enable Nexus owners to make their phones more like them.
