Green Bay Packers: The Davante Adams Disapointment

November 28 18:47 2015

“We had the opportunity at the end down there at the 8-yard line with the shots and we didn’t get it done”, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said.

Two quarters later, with 25 seconds left in the game and Green Bay down 17-13 to the Bears, those same drenched, screaming fans watched as their current star quarterback, and possible future legend, scrambled and threw the ball toward Davante Adams in the end zone. James Jones caught none of the six passes thrown his way.

Thursday night’s game in Green Bay – won by the Bears, 17-13, turning away Aaron Rodgers and the Packers four times with the football at the Chicago 8 in the closing seconds – had all the markings of precisely that for a Bears team so often humiliated in this exact venue.

One was the status of his left arm, which Rodgers hurt in the third quarter on a hit by Bears linebacker Lamarr Houston.

Rodgers completed just 22 of 43 passes for 202 yards with a touchdown and an interception on Thursday, resulting in a meager 62.4 passer rating – his lowest at Lambeau Field in his career. Bears players still have memories of their last Lambeau visit, a scarring 55-14 humiliation. But with Fox and offensive coordinator Adam Gase, Cutler avoided throwing an interception. A Cutler-led offense with that can quickly turn one big upset to become more like the norm, that Chicago can consistently compete with Green Bay in lighting up the scoreboard.

Why did the Bears’ defense feel so confident that they could compete with and defeat Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Brett Favre Night? His name and No. 4 joined the franchise’s five other retired numbers on the north facade inside the stadium. That’s not to say that Fox deserves to win the award, but he certainly does deserve to be mentioned among potential candidates.

The Packers caught a break after Cutler mishandled a shotgun snap on third-and-11 to set up a punt.

Lacy returned to the field in the second half, but the team limited him to just seven touches (he finished with 21) and refused to use him during the game-deciding drive at the end of the game.

What Happened: There were some cold and soggy conditions in Green Bay as the rain came down for most of the game, putting points and ball security at a premium.

No matter. Prosinski rallied not only on that play, but earlier when he forced Eddie Lacy to fumble.

In the second, the Bears got rolling on a 3-yard hookup from Jay Cutler to TE Zach Miller to tie it up. “

RB Matt Forte, who missed the previous three games with a knee injury, carried 15 times for 44 yards, a 2.9-yard average, with a long gain of 7.
