The Dallas Mavericks found that out the hard way.
So he’s feeling pretty good about everything… including the odds that the Warriors will have more banners to hang when they get there. Behind William’s blitz, Dallas was able to get within one point of the Warriors with around seven minutes left.
Klay Thompson dropped 45 points on the Mavericks as they made Stephen Curry their main defensive focus. “But when you’re playing against it, it’s annoying, man, it’s frustrating”.
“They hit us with too many layups”.
Yep, that about sizes up what transpired Wednesday. The Warriors enable others than Curry to have their moments in the spotlight through their intelligent and exciting play, without anyone trying to force his way to the top ofthe box score. It took some time to get things rolling through.
This was another one of those games when one huge run from the Warriors, this time in the third quarter, killed off the contest. “I think Klay deserves to be there – not only because of the way he’s played, but also because of the way the team has played”.
While Mejri has been a really great surprise over the past week and a half, if Dallas wants to have a shot at the 4-or-5-seed in the playoffs, they’re going to need a healthy Zaza Pachulia.
Thompson ended up scoring the last 14 points for the Warriors as Golden State took a 56-48 lead into the half. Thompson was 14-of-20 from the field, including 7-of-12 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Dieng shines in Wolves’ loss: Gorgui Dieng came out in the starting line-up at Power Forward for the Wolves (14-33) and along with Karl Anthony Towns (19 points, 13 rebounds), Zach LaVine (35 points) and Andrew Wiggins (20 points) kept Minnesota close against the Thunder (35-13). The Warriors shot 53% from inside the restricted area thanks to the wide open cuts and drives that Timmy usually limits by communicating with his teammates and affecting shots at the rim.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr went with a super-small lineup in the second quarter, and that was without Curry on the court. It’s not about where this team is in January, it’s about where they are in March. I’m disappointed, but not dismayed. The Warriors came away with the W, 127-107. “They have so many good shooters and they have so many good cutters and movers”.
There are two different type of blowout losses: the ones that are worthless and the ones that help you get better. It works well…. There always has to be a little bit of a pecking order in the National Basketball Association. After watching a technical perfection of a game against the Spurs, the Warriors treated parts of this game like a pre-season match up.
Curry had himself a mortal kind of night. The Warriors were +26 with him on the floor, the best on the team.
“That’s ridiculous, I can’t believe it”, said Thompson.
But the Mavericks fightback was snuffed out as the Warriors went on a 30-point blitz to build a comfortable 95-77 lead.
